CCHQ St. Patrick’s Day 2013

Cannabis Culture is celebrating its’ first year anniversary with its’ revamped window displays. Honestly, I cannot believe it has already been a year!

So big shout-out and THANK YOU to Cannabis Culture Headquarters, you guys are awesome!

Our inspiration for this month’s window was St. Patrick’s Day, and the saying that there is a pot of gold at the end of each rainbow.

We then applied a little twist to this!

Aunt Leah’s Urban Thrift Spring Display

I am proud to announce my newest partnership with Aunt Leah’s Urban Thrift. A friend shared with me how they profoundly helped him, after hearing this, I was moved to help put my skills to good use to help them as well.

They do amazing things for the people who need it most. They provide life skills training, housing, job training, and quality of life opportunities for foster children, young single moms with new babies, and help them make the transformation to independence and adulthood.  Just to name a few.

You can learn more about their work here at auntleahs.org. They run a small thrift shop, though its’ size is deceiving, it has been packed full of quality, handpicked items, and at amazing prices.

I highly recommend you stop in, they are warm, welcoming, and charming. What’s not to love?

We took our inspiration from the sun, newly sprouting trees, and flowers, and decided to represent spring!

And how much did it cost? $0! I just want to let all my readers know, that window displays do not have to cost thousands of dollars to be effective. Just some love and attention can go a long way!

Style Guide – Live Edge

A friend prompted me to talk about this particular style, Live Edge, is growing rapidly in popularity here in British Columbia. I thought I would share my love for this trend (which I believe is going to stick around) as well as the many uses I have found to create a stunning look!

The great thing about this style, it is rugged, yet sophistated, easy to come by and relatively inexpensive.

You can get creative with its uses, and combine it with many styles. Live edge pairs very well with contemporary and oriental decor.

Live edge would be one of the first styles I would recommend if I were to find a couple who cannot agree on what their place should look like, as both males and females can relate to live edge, it is strong, while at the same time, has a soft subtle movement within the wood grain.  You can see it all over the place in restaurants around, for all of the reasons I listed above!

Valentine’s Specials at Refine Spa

This was by far my most challenging window display I have created thus far. Our deadline was coming up very fast so it was hustle time for me.

The first thing I must do once we have confirmed a window is to do the shopping for materials, the first thing I purchase is always the most important. So the frame for the heart, is too large to fit it my car! We cut it half, still too large, cut it into quarters, still too large!

After a few more cuts I was on my way, but left wondering how my design is going to hold with so many cuts.

The next challenge was for me to glue 1200+ rose petals withing one evening, I managed after a late night and a gallon of coffee.

With all challenges conquered, installation went smooth, the customers and employees loved it, as do I.  It was stressful, but I learned, the more challenge you face, the more satisfying it is to complete.

Fun and Flirty at Cannabis Culture Headquarters

All the girls at Marc Emery’s Cannabis Culture Headquarters had some fun with this window!

I must say, this one was of the most challenging days I have had installing a window, usually it goes quite smooth, but all challenges were overcome by the end of the day. Thanks to the awesome staff for pulling together from the disappointing dramatic morning and getting some major work done! What a great team!

Fantasy Factory Holiday Window

A true challenge to a designer is creating something practical, gripping, while keeping within the budget and deadline. Adding to this challenge with an extreme deadline, and a budget that is as low as humanly possible.

These were my criteria for Fantasy Factory on Davie Street. I felt like I was on a race against the clock, and gave it a good run for its’ money!  What is also very unique about this is their window actually moves on a regular basis, and has this incredible neon using a significant chunk of the window space.

Such a very unique challenge, and all in good fun. I appreciate being kept constantly on my toes where almost everything I do is a small experiment, and must never be afraid to fail.

My holiday hope this year is that I will be doing many more windows for the good folks at Fantasy Factory. Stay tuned to find out!

Happy holidays!

There has been a lot of work into Cannabis Culture’s window this month. New lights, fresh paint, and they have doubled their window!

My photos cannot express the feeling you get as you walk THROUGH this winter wonderland, it’s quite fabulous, and you should get down the asap to see what I mean!

In the meantime, enjoy my photos ; )
